List of Things that I am Hosting on a VPS

Gitea Git Server

gitea.png

I host my own instance of Gitea on my VPS and I really love it, I have already written a rant about something about a “fork” that happened with Gitea but I removed it. But I found it again and here’s a modified version of it it:

This section is not about Gitea (because I really like Gitea), but Forgejo, an example when you are too obsessed with FOSS that you forget how to make good software, before using Gitea, I used cgit, which I really don’t see the point of using anymore. Then I decided to host Gitea because I think I had more memory or something, which just works, but then I discovered Forgejo which is like some fork of Gitea, because apparently Gitea was going to be proprietary or open-core or some bullshit excuse freetards use to fork the project and maintain the README, because that’s what Forgejo is, the only thing they changed is the loading screen svg animation thing when you’re pushing a new git repository. Not even the branding in the logs. There is absolutely no point in running Forgejo as the “maintainers” can’t even properly maintain an up-to-date Debian repository.

Zipline - ShareX/file Upload Server

As my friend was talking about hosting a file server for her screenshots I decided to find something as well and I found this NodeJS web app. Zipline has a nice bloated user interface using the latest soydev technologies, which might piss off certain people, the fact that I said soydev, or the fact that it uses soydev stuff. I looked at the node_modules and it’s fucking 1gbs or dependencies that I don’t really know what are for. I don’t care tho because it works well. I made a tutorial for it by the way, it’s really easy to host! You can find it here!

Umami Analytics, Datamining

Umami is what I use to datamine, uh it uses javascript to track what you do on my website. They say it collects data anonymously and it’s the reason why I chose it, you don’t even need a GDPR “this site uses cookies” notice. I self-host this on my VPS and all the data is mine, I wouldn’t want to use something like Google Analytics for example. It has worked great for me and some friends that used it previously, it is also written in NodeJS and it’s easy to host. You can find a tutorial here!

Email Server

I have a working OpenSMTPD, Dovecot and rspamd email server running on an OpenBSD secondary VPS. I am using this script that (I talked about here) to host it. I really really wanted to do something with OpenBSD just to be able to say “I use OpenBSD BTW.”
